STDs PREVENTION.
BY JAMES GICHUHI
Sexual transmitted diseases (STDs) , commonly known as
sexually transmitted infections (STIs ) are infections transmitted through
human sexual behaviours eg. Sexual intercourse, oral sex, or even anal sex.
Examples of the infections are: HIV, gonorrhea, syphilis, herpes among others.
There is need to try and prevent the spread of diseases as
they are expensive to cure and others are incurable eg. HIV/AIDs.
There
are several ways to prevent STDs. To start with; it is quite recommended one to
avoid unprotected sex with individuals who have genital sores, uncommon discharge, and genital rashes among other
uncommon appearances in the genital areas. This is because the uncommon
appearances may be symptoms of STDs. This will deter spread of infections for
the diseases.
It is wise for people to have protected sex. The most common
way of having protected sex is use of condoms.
A condom is a barrier which prevents direct contact of parts used during
intercourse.
It also holds the semen ejaculated by the man from entering
the woman’s organ. It also prevents the virginal fluids from entering the man’s
duct. The fluids may have germs that transmit the disease.
Some of the germs causing the STDs have the capability of
staying alive for long outside the human’s body. There is a possibility for the
germs to stay on under pants in an active state for a long time until the time
it gets in the human body. This brings the need to alert people to stop sharing underpants and towels. This
will play a great role to prevent the transmission of STDs, for personal hygiene
it is no wise for people to share personal items among the m being the
underpants and bathing towels.
Being faithful also helps to prevent
the transmission of the STDs. Unfaithful
lovers are in high risk of contracting of the diseases for they will not know
where they get the disease and hence transmitting the diseases to their
partners. Faithfulness among partners hence is essential in preventing the
transmission of STDs.
People
who engage in sex behaviours as partners is advisable for them to go to doctors
regularly for checkup. This helps
when one of the partners is infected. He or she is advised by the doctor hence
preventing him/ her transmitting it to the other partner. This reduces the rate
of transmission.
If one
of the partners is found to have the infections, he or she should follow
doctor’s advice and refrain from sex until the doctors recommends. This help in
prevention of transmitting the diseases unknowingly. Otherwise ne can have
protected sex.
To
prevent STDs sexual morals should be upheld for example, avoid sex with
individuals with genital sores, uncommon discharges, and rashes. Have protected
sex for example, use of condoms and doctor checkups is essential. We should
also stop sharing personal items for example, under pants and bathing towels. Faithfulness
among the partners is also important.
